Both at BSB.
Thursday June 30, 2005 was a feeding festival in the bushes on the west side of BSB. The Service Berries have been attracting birds for weeks. The Cedar Waxwings are always there along with the Starlings and Catbirds. There are also many finches feeding there. I captured some video of the House Finches - male and female. The male in the image above shows three different colors in it's head markings - red , orange and yellow. Some of the other images showoff the red front of this bird. All four images are of the same bird. He was busy tearing apart the Service Berries and ignoring me. The next day July 1 about 7:15 AM as I was coming into work the trees were empty of birds but I saw six Finches on the phone lines. They flew into the trees that are still heavy with berries and minute later a group of six Waxwings followed. Some of the trees have been stripped of their little blue-berry like fruits but on some trees the berries are still weighing down the branches.

A female came along and pushed a male out of the way and starting eating from the berries that the male had torn apart..

On Friday May 11, 2007 around lunch time I found this bird on the berm behind BSB. It ignored me so I was able to get the following series of digital photos.

Compare House Finch (left panes) and
Purple Finch (right panes)
This House Finch has orange and yellow on its head and the
front striping is darker, more distinctive. Also, we see the white patch under the Purple
Finch. Both of these are males - the female lacks the coloration.
